About Lingwei Wu, LCSW

Lingwei Wu, LCSW, is a bilingual (Mandarin) psychodynamic psychotherapist and licensed clinical social worker practicing in the state of New York. Grounded in psychoanalytic theory, Lingwei brings a nuanced understanding of bicultural identity to her therapeutic approach, helping clients navigate the complexities of their inner and outer worlds with depth and empathy.

Affiliation

Lingwei is the Clinical Program Manager for the EnTRY (Enhanced Treatment and Recovery) Program and the Program Director for the OnTrack Team at NYU Langone Health’s Sunset Terrace Family Health Center. Both programs specialize in treating individuals with severe mental illness (SMI), including those experiencing first-episode psychosis. In addition to her leadership roles, Lingwei supervises staff clinicians and the team leader within these programs.

Clinical Experience

Before developing her interest in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches, Lingwei worked as a frontline social worker on the inpatient psychiatric unit at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. There, she gained deep experience working with the SMI (serious mental illness) population, which shaped her clinical perspective. Concurrently, she served as a clinician at a community-based outpatient mental health clinic, providing care to Chinese patients across a wide spectrum of psychiatric diagnoses.

Lingwei has extensive experience supporting East Asian immigrants, particularly those navigating complex family dynamics, intergenerational trauma, and cultural adaptation. Her clinical work focuses on addressing the unique psychosocial stressors faced by this population, including acculturation conflicts, shifting familial role expectations, and the tension between traditional values and modern identity. Integrating a culturally sensitive framework with psychoanalytic insight, she helps clients explore unconscious desires, wishes, and fantasies—deepening self-awareness to resolve family conflicts, establish healthier boundaries, and cultivate resilience while honoring their cultural heritage.

Education and Qualifications

Prior to her training at the Psychoanalytic Association of New York (PANY) at New York University Medical School, one of the five distinguished psychoanalytic training institutes affiliated with the American Psychoanalytic Association, Lingwei earned her MSW from New York University Silver School of Social Work in New York City in 2017.
